Goliath Coffee is excited to be supporting the launch of MakerStore this weekend. MakerStore is a unique retail experience that will showcase one-of-a-kind and small-run products designed and produced at MakerLabs.
The event is a great chance to meet the makers and mingle with an emerging group of driven entrepreneurs that are looking to help shape the future of the Strathcona neighbourhood. Plus, we'll be premiering the Conraua Cocktail, a custom cold brew coffee concoction that combines our smooth cold brew concentrate with aged rum, Malagasy Chocolate bitters and a few other surprises. Thanks to our favourite mixologist, Tyson Villenueve, for creating this delicious cocktail to showcase the versatility of our Cold Brew Concentrate.

MakerStore - a celebration of local makers - opens in Strathcona on October 10th
Vancouver, BC, Canada - October 6, 2015 - MakerLabs is excited to announce the upcoming launch of MakerStore, its very own retail space in Vancouver’s Strathcona neighbourhood. MakerStore is a celebration of local makers and will offer one-of-a-kind and small-run products designed and produced at MakerLabs or within the province of BC. Initial offerings will include hand-crafted furniture, one-of-a-kind housewares, all natural body care products, jewelry, stationery and much more.
"We want to create a shopping destination and gathering place in the Strathcona neighbourhood," says Jesi Carson, Partner at Basic Design, an industrial design firm based out of MakerLabs. Basic Design is coordinating the design and launch of MakerStore in collaboration with MakerLabs, Haeccity Studio Architecture and other contributors. "We hope that MakerStore will support the growing community of creative startups and continue to foster a maker culture in BC," she states. MakerStore would not have been a possibility without the help of the local maker community and generous supporters. Antsquare, a new community marketplace app, is sponsoring the MakerStore Opening Showcase.
On Saturday, October 10th, MakerStore will host its Opening Showcase event between 5 and 10pm. The evening will be filled with games, food and drinks, and opportunities to mix and mingle with local makers. Many MakerLabs members will be selling their wares in MakerStore, and others, including Tubify, Goliath Coffee and Living Lotus, will be participating as vendors during the Opening Showcase. Long time MakerLabs member, Kahve and Chai, is generously donating their space for use during the event, and Wood Type, a local business operating out of MakerLabs, is hand crafting a beautiful marquee sign for MakerStore.
The timber used by Basic Design and Haeccity Studio Architecture in the design of the space was reclaimed from the original, and now-demolished, MakerLabs location and donated back to the maker community by the Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House. The large lumber was professionally processed in the nearby Chapel Arts woodworking facility.
Craft beer from a local brewery will be sold by donation in support of the Binners Project, a Tides Canada initiative. Representatives from the Binners Project will be in attendance at the MakerStore Opening Showcase to raise awareness about the project.

“MakerLabs (makerspace + fablab) was born out of a vision of creating the best possible space for making," says Derek Gaw, founder of the 26,000 square foot makerspace. Located in East Vancouver's Strathcona neighbourhood, MakerLabs provides people with the tools, space, and skills to make almost anything.
MakerLabs has grown to over 200 members since it's launch in April of 2014, and has opened up both creative and economic opportunities for individuals and small businesses. With affordable access to co-working space, woodworking tools, and cutting-edge fabrication machines like laser cutters and 3D printers, local makers have the ability to invest in their own creativity.
